CLIENT: SOLOMON COMMERCIALS
The Challenge
Solomon Commercials are industry leaders in temperature-controlled transport manufacturing, backed by 50 years of experience. They design and build refrigerated vehicles and trailers, supplying the UK food distribution sector as well as healthcare and pharma cold chain logistics.
They approached us to create a comprehensive overview video to live on their website. The primary goal was to clearly communicate their role in the world of temperature-controlled transport manufacturing.
We needed the animation to capture the true scale and professionalism of their operation, showing their specific role as the manufacturers within the refrigerated food sector. Ultimately, the aim was to create an engaging piece for their site that showed off exactly how they design and build their bespoke vehicles, and to get to see their diverse fleet in action out on the road.

The Outcome
To deliver a comprehensive overview video that captures the true scale of Solomon Commercials' operation, we built a custom 3D environment to showcase their fleet in action. Knowing this piece would sit prominently on their website, it was crucial that our world building integrated seamlessly with their current branding.
Based on their signature "Solomon O," this largely monochromatic world flows directly from commercial distribution hubs into everyday residential streets, ensuring the vehicles remain the main focus of the animation. We also approached this environment as a long-term asset, designing a versatile set that can be repurposed for multiple use cases and future animations.
To show exactly how these vehicles are designed and manufactured, we utilised 3D CAD models as well as developing a blueprint X-ray effect to visually breakdown the vehicles, highlighting their high-quality engineering.
Ultimately, this combination of stylized world building and technical breakdowns resulted in an engaging piece that successfully communicates their industry-leading professionalism and manufacturing prowess. Looking ahead, we are keen to collaborate with them again in the future to dive even deeper into the production side of their fleet.

The Craft
Building this 3D world from scratch was a massive job. The biggest challenge we faced was getting the right level of detail. We needed the environment to feel rich and alive, but we had to be careful that the vehicle models didn't look out of place sitting within it.
For the technical development of the animation, we leaned heavily into procedural workflows within Cinema 4D. We built the city using C4D's cloner-based tools, allowing us to generate features like grassy islands, walls, and benches that were driven entirely by a single spline for quick and easy manipulation. Streetlights, people, curbs and walls were also created this way.
We then populated the environment using C4D's asset library to quickly integrate trees and people to add life to the scene. For the fleet itself, we relied on the C4D's material library to accurately texture the trucks to match Solomon's current site output. To animate them efficiently, we set up efficient solutions to the animation process. Such as custom drivers for the wheels, by keyframing the front wheels to automatically drive the rotation of the rear. This ensured they moved at the exact same rate, which across 5 vehicle types, saved valuable animation time.
To achieve the technical breakdown look, we utilized a contour shader within Redshift to generate a fast, clean blueprint effect. Ultimately, our pipeline was built for efficiency, the C4D take system allowed us to setup and sequentially render a host of shots directly from one master scene file, while Redshift gave us rapid iteration on real-world lighting and incredibly fast overall render times.
Below are some of the storyboard frames and tests made during production.
