Motion Design Agency

We're a motion design agency that turns brands, products and complicated ideas into motion graphics people actually watch. Clear, crafted and made to move.

Motion graphics that make the complex clear

Motion graphics that make the complex clear

Most of what we animate starts as something hard to explain: a SaaS platform, a technical process, a brand repositioning, a news programme with a lot to say. Motion design is how we make it simple. Type, shape, colour and timing do the work that paragraphs of copy can't.

We work with brands directly, and as the motion team behind creative agencies and broadcasters across the UK.

Our motion design services

Our motion design services

Brand motion and identity

Logos, type and graphics that move with purpose. We build motion systems so your brand feels consistent across ads, social, presentations and screens.

Explainer and product videos

We take a complex product, service or process and make it make sense in under two minutes. Ideal for SaaS, tech and B2B. See explainer video production.

Broadcast titles and graphics

Title sequences, idents and on-screen graphics for TV and online programmes, designed to fit the show and its audience.

Data and infographic animation

Numbers, maps and abstract ideas turned into motion graphics your audience understands at a glance.

2D and 3D, together

Many projects mix flat graphics with 3D elements. We do both in-house, so there's no hand-off between teams. See our 3D animation page for more on this.

Studio North

Studio North

Studio North make brands for a living, so they knew exactly what they wanted theirs to say. Their new positioning, "Breakthrough Branding", rests on a set of distinct brand pillars. They needed motion that could give each pillar its own character without flattening them into one generic style.

Working for another creative studio raises the bar. They know the process, they have strong opinions, and they'll spot a shortcut. The brief asked us to explore three separate visual approaches rather than settle early on a single look.

We treated it as a collaboration between two studios, not a brief to execute in isolation. We started loose, with sketches, experimental motion tests and moodboards studying how other animators handle shape and movement. We shared concepts with Studio North at every stage instead of saving everything for a big reveal. That meant their team could shape the work while it was still easy to change.

We generated a lot of ideas, and part of the job was knowing which to leave out. Creative restraint kept each style focused, distinct and usable across their channels.

Dare to be Mighty

Dare to be Mighty

This was a passion project we worked on in the MightyGiant studio. We had an idea about the ideal explainer film, one that combined all our skills into one short story. We also wanted something that explained the power of our craft.

Why MightyGiant?

We're a small senior team. You talk to the people doing the work, not an account manager. Based in Manchester's Northern Quarter, we work with brands, agencies and broadcasters across the UK and beyond.

FAQs | Motion Design

What's the difference between motion design and motion graphics?

Very little in practice. Both mean animated graphics: type, shapes, logos, icons and data. "Motion design" tends to stress the design thinking behind it, and we reckon it's a more modern term. But if asked, we consider them both to be the same discipline.

How much does it cost?

Cost depends on length, style, and the overall look. So no real solid answer here. Sorry. Most projects fall between £15k and £50k.

We always say, tell us your budget and we'll show you what's possible within it. There are many ways to tackle these projects.

How long does a motion design project take?

A 60–90 second film usually takes 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the script, feedback rounds and how much illustration is needed. We can very quickly estimate this once we've established your story + what style we're working with.

Do you work outside Manchester?

Yes, most of our clients are elsewhere in the UK, or outside the UK. Like most studios, we have some pretty decent cloud based platforms for reviewing and keeping things ticking along.

Can you work to our brand guidelines?

Absolutely. We work within existing brand systems all the time, and can extend them into motion if you don't have animation rules yet. We've helped brands build their motion language, so please get in touch if this would be of use to you.

Do you work with agencies?

We've been fortunate to work with some amazing agencies over the years. The Studio North project above is a great example. We're equally comfortable coming in with the brief ready to go, or helping companies who are stepping into this world for the first time.
