Exploring Animation as a tool for Tech Storytelling.

The Challenge

Animation is a fantastic tool at explaining the abstract, the complex, and (sometimes), the absurd. When nothing tangible exists, you need to find new ways to illustrate your story.

That's what we set out to do with this short animation.

The Outcome

The story of a Tech product, without showing the actual product. Or naming it. Was certainly a challenge, but one we felt we rose to.

The Craft

A big part of this project was the work we did with Jacob Brodmann, AKA Honest Days Work. Sometimes you can be too close to a subject, so his ideas and storybuilding were refreshing.

From here we dived into our usual process. Moodboards, sketches, and storyboards to build a flow.

As you can see below, one of the formative stages (and the less visually appealing) is blocking out the script into actions. Starting to write the motion script.

Once we have this locked down we start to look into the storyboards. Depending on the narrative, these can be quite detailed, or quite abstract. In this instance it also included building in options. Sometimes you don't know what will work until you're into the animation.
