The Year in Review

A look into one of the methods we use to push our creativity.

Promise, this gets more positive the further you read! Think of it as “What do you want first, the good news or the bad news?”

Generally it’s been one of the toughest  years I can remember in the 15 years of MightyGiant (and we’ve a pandemic to throw in there). And I’m not just talking about the financials; we’ve had some really nice big jobs in. But the lack of motion and movement in creative/marketing has been a concern. A general feeling of stasis, which is reflected by the general economic picture. Coming on Linkedin/Instagram you’d think everyone is smashing it. I chat with studio owners, creatives, agency folk almost every day. One or two are smashing it. GOOD! We need some of these stories, and hopefully 2026 will bring more of these. Most though are just about keeping their **** together.

And why?

Not the sole driver, but how can you ignore it. You know what I’m talking about…..the machines are coming, there’s no avoiding it.

But I’ve noticed an interesting shift already in this fast changing world. Within a few months we’ve gone from panic panic, we’re all doomed….to “Wait a minute. It’s not what we thought it was”.

In the studio we’re always playing with new tools. Now we’re using this new tech to help in situations where other options weren’t feasible. One example is a project where the shot footage wasn’t quite what we’d hoped. Even last year our only option there was to bin the sequence, or ask the client to go back and re-shoot it (not possible in this job). We now have a tool that allows us to solve the problem.

Maybe we’ve turned a bit of a corner already. The pace this tech is moving means we are all bound to be startled, and it still scares me at times. But equally I can see the initial gold rush dying down, to a realization that it still needs someone behind the scenes crafting the end result.

Motion North

My ‘other job’  turned 50 (events, not years…yet!) in 2025. So I, and a few trusted helpers, managed to pull off a full day event, with some magnificent speakers and contributors. It wasn’t perfect, but so much was learnt that I decided we should put on a two day one in February. I love the community at Motion North, and even more so the links we’re starting to build with Education. I truly hope it continues to develop as one small cog for the next gen coming through.

MightyGiant

Finishing on a positive note about the people I am lucky to work with every day. We, the team, have managed to build a collective  who are now pushing each other, and regularly wowing our clients. We run a staff survey through Workleap (a range of temperature checks of the workplace) and without doubt the proudest part of my work is seeing a regular 8.5 out of 10, and a 100% enps score. That’s my best reward for the end of the year.

I think I’ve got maybe one or two more posts in me before a well earned Linkedin rest. Hope anyone who’s made it this far has a superb break.
