I think about this definition a lot in terms of the work I get offered that straddles all these areas. I see myself sitting pretty firmly in the motion graphics camp with one foot in post (and aspirationally live-action directing), and not remotely in what's considered the traditional 'animation' camp. A big difference as I see it, is motion graphics is exactly that, 'Graphic Design' in motion, whereas I see animation as being 'Illustration' in motion and typically character based at that. Surprises me how often I find I'm expected to be proficient in one just because I've plenty evidence of the other. Great read.
